Riverview School District Superintendent Dr. Anthony L. Smith welcomes you!
Welcome to the Riverview School District! We have become a destination district due to our student accomplishments, excellent staff, wide variety of opportunities for students, and award-winning programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), Career and Technical Education (CTE), and our alternative programs. We continue to expand our successful partnerships with business and industry, parents, and the community at-large. With our high graduation and college placement rates, we are elevating our focus and setting a long-term goal of getting every student started on a post-secondary certification plan. Some examples include earning college credit in the high school, tech-prep credit, AP waiver of college credit, Microsoft Certification, and other industry standard certification programs, such as our School Board approved manufacturing/fabrication certification.
Regardless of the reporting mechanism, you will discover that the Riverview School District is amongst the highest performers in the state, with schooldigger.com rating our district in the top 20 districts in the State of Washington (16th). Test scores are only one measure of a school district. Our focus on personalizing learning with an equity lens and commitment to the “four A’s” is what sets Riverview apart in terms of student opportunities. While Academics will always be the focus, we know that students gain life changing experiences through the Arts, Activities, and Athletics. Our amazing teaching staff is engaged in job-embedded professional development to continually grow at their craft. Our students have seamless access to technology, both in the classroom and with their district-issued personal devices.
Another focus of the district is partnerships, whether with regional business and industry, local organizations, or through community organizations such as the Riverview Education Foundation, Snoqualmie Valley Community Network, or local PTSAs. The number of documented parent and community volunteers grows every year and is currently over 1,500 in a district of 3,000 students.
The Riverview School District continues to receive regional, state, and national recognition for its schools and programs. The Riverview School District was one of only three districts in the United States recognized by the College Board to receive the AP Honor Roll award for five consecutive years. This prestigious award is given to school districts that expand opportunity and demonstrate improving performance of AP students. Our Career and Technical Education Program at Cedarcrest High School and its students continue to receive top state and national awards for excellence. Our high school FFA program has been selected State Program of the Year for two of the past five years. Most of our schools and programs have received School of Distinction or Washington Achievement awards for academic excellence. Carnation Elementary has been nationally recognized for its green school and sustainability accomplishments. Tolt Middle School received an OSPI State Award for closing gaps and demonstrating significant achievement improvement for identified student groups. Our teachers are amongst the best trained and most actively involved; they have distinguished themselves by serving on regional and state leadership networks, work groups, and committees. After being selected as Washington School Board of the Year in 2016, our school board was chosen as a Board of Distinction in 2020, by the Washington State School Directors’ Association, for the seventh consecutive year.
Our district is well-known for its high expectations and family oriented, collaborative culture. We look forward to partnering with you to ensure Riverview continues to excel for each child and family in the Riverview community!
